CALCUTTA (India): Kibu Vicuna is currently relishing his days in the city after guiding Mohun Bagan to I-League victory with four matches to spare. There are speculations that he may leave the club, but the Spaniard said that “nothing is concrete” at the moment.

“I’ve my contract with the club till April. Before that I can’t sign any new deal with any clubs. If I do, I’ve have a technical problem,” Kibu told KHEL UPDATES in an exclusive interview here on Thursday afternoon.

The 48-year-old Spaniard had joined the Mariners at the beginning of last season. There were a lot of expectations on him as Bagan was looking to end their trophy drought.

But his start in Indian football wasn’t that great as Bagan ended runners-up in the local league and Durand Cup besides losing in an international event in Bangladesh.

Kibu was under tremendous pressure after his side kicked off I-League campaign with a 4-2 defeat at home against Churchill Brothers.

Despite the early setbacks, he didn’t lose hope and with his rejuvenated confidence he was able to win the hearts of Bagan fans and officials and helped them win the trophy that mattered most.

Bagan will be seen in action in the ISL from next season after they had merged with ISL champions ATK. But with ‘no offers’ coming from the club on his extension, Kibu is weighing his options.

“We still have four games left in the I-League. With the coronavirus outbreak has put the league on hold, this is a peculiar situation. No one knows when the league will begin. There has been talks with different clubs, but I’ve not taken any decision or made any commitment. This moment I only want to concentrate on Mohun Bagan until the end of the season,” said Kibu, who has been the assistant coach at several Polish clubs.

Currently, he is being linked with ISL side Kerala Blasters on a possible move next season.

On why he was not considered for the Bagan-ATK job, Kibu said: “Look, I’m a professional and realistic person. My father (José Antonio) used to tell me one thing often, ‘You don’t have to worry about the future, someone is there to think. You do your job right. If you fail, then you can ask God, I wasn’t at fault but why did you trouble me?

“This is the ultimate attainment of a human being. I won’t say, I didn’t feel bad but I’ve made myself understand that Mohun Bagan officials has nothing to do with it because they’ve to respect a new contract with ATK. That’s why Habas is ahead. But I won’t say I don’t have a chance. Let’s see what happens.”
