RABAT: Hosts Morocco have named reigning African Footballer of the Year Achraf Hakimi in their 26-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, signaling confidence that the star full-back will recover from an ankle injury ahead of the tournament.
Hakimi Expected to Recover in Time
Hakimi sustained a severe sprain to his left ankle during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2–1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last month, prompting concerns about his availability for AFCON.
Despite the setback, head coach Walid Regragui has remained optimistic about the captain’s recovery. He reiterated that Hakimi is progressing well and is expected to be fit for Morocco’s opening match against Comoros on December 21 in Rabat.
Morocco Set to Launch AFCON Campaign at Home
As hosts, Morocco are aiming for a strong start on home soil. With Hakimi included, the squad announcement reflects the coaching staff’s determination to field their strongest possible lineup as they prepare for a highly anticipated tournament.
