The 2026 Finalissima between Spain national football team and Argentina national football team is expected to be relocated from Lusail Stadium in Qatar due to regional security concerns and the suspension of football activities by the Qatar Football Association.
International outlets reported that the match, originally scheduled for March 27, will not take place in Doha as planned. The global football platform OneFootball cited the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, which said the change is being considered for security reasons.
According to the reports, Wembley Stadium in London is currently the leading option because of its accessibility and neutral status. Spain had proposed hosting the match at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, but the suggestion was rejected by Argentina. Other venues such as San Siro in Milan and Stadio Olimpico in Rome are also being considered, while Miami has reportedly been ruled out.
The Portuguese outlet The Portugal Post highlighted that regional security and stability are crucial factors affecting not only international sport but also broader global cooperation.
Nearly 88,966 tickets were sold within two hours for the match at Lusail, the same venue where Argentina national football team won the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, giving the event additional symbolic significance.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente confirmed that negotiations are ongoing to move the game to a safe and neutral stadium. He stressed that the priority is ensuring security and stability so both teams can compete without concern.
UEFA and CONMEBOL are currently working with the two national federations to finalize a new venue that can safely host the high-profile clash between the champions of Europe and South America. ⚽
