RABAT: Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four-match ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s 2-0 defeat to hosts Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday.

CAF said in a statement that Eto’o was seen making an angry gesture over refereeing decisions in the presence of CAF president Patrice Motsepe. The incident came amid a tense encounter that also saw players from both teams jostling on the pitch, prompting CAF to open investigations into violent confrontations during AFCON matches.

In addition to the ban, CAF’s disciplinary board fined Eto’o $20,000. FECAFOOT strongly criticised the ruling, saying the decision “lacks any explicit justification” and raising concerns over the speed of the process.

“The expedited procedure leading to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair process,” FECAFOOT said in a statement on Thursday, confirming it would appeal the sanction. The federation added that it fully supports Eto’o and remains committed to “the principles governing credible disciplinary justice.”

Meanwhile, tournament hosts Morocco will face Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
