DOHA : The fourth edition of the Eclipse Beach Volleyball Championship gets under way on Monday at The Pearl Island, with matches set to continue until the 18th day of the holy month of Ramadan.
Twelve teams have been drawn into four groups of three, with the top two from each group progressing to the quarter-finals. The group stage will be played in a single round-robin format.
Opening-day fixtures pit Lekhwiya against Seashore, the Ministry of Interior versus Al Rayyan, and Al Markhiya against Khalifa City.
Organisers have earmarked 600,000 riyals ($164,835) in prizes for fans attending the tournament, while total prize money for the top three teams has been increased to 200,000 riyals.
Tournament director Abdullah Nasser Al Yafie said supporters can expect a high level of competition, citing improved technical standards and enhanced incentives for both teams and fans.
Launched in 2023 at Aspire Zone, the tournament was later staged at Doha Port, part of organisers’ efforts to broaden its reach and strengthen its appeal as both a sporting and entertainment event.
