DOHA (Qatar): Duhail SC clinched the 2019-20 Qatar Stars League shield after beating Al Ahli 1-0 at the Al Janoub Stadium on Friday evening.
This was their seventh title in their history.
Edmilson scored the only goal of the match in the 23rd minute of a direct free kick and that sealed the crown for them with 52 points.
However, this season’s competition was one of the most keenly contested one as it went down the wire with Al Rayyan was also in the race to win the title.
Both the teams were separated by one point, but Rayyan’s 2-0 win over Al Wakrah in another match that was held simultaneously couldn’t bring them luck as Duhail maintained their domination.
Yacine Brahimi (59th) and Gabriel Mercado (71st) were the scorers for Rayyan, who came close to winning the title after 2015-16 season.
The league was resumed on July 24 after over a four-month break due to coronavirus pandemic with the remaining five rounds were played that decided the fate of the teams.
