DOHA: The Qatar Athletics Federation has confirmed that all preparations are complete for Doha to host the third round of the World Athletics Diamond League this Friday. The prestigious event will take place at Suhail Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar Sports Club.
The organizing committee announced that 128 elite athletes, including 45 Olympic champions in track and field, are expected to compete in this high-profile competition.
Speaking at a press conference, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, revealed that this year’s lineup features several world-record holders. He underscored the federation’s ongoing commitment to making the Doha leg stand out for its technical excellence and high-performance standards — a reputation it has upheld for many years.
Al Fadala stated that the competition will include 14 events: 8 for men and 6 for women. Notably, the men’s high jump returns this year after being absent from last year’s edition.
He added that with the World Athletics Championships scheduled for September in Tokyo, this season promises intense competition, as athletes aim to fine-tune their form ahead of the global showdown.
Highlighting Qatar’s role as a world-class host, Al Fadala emphasized the importance of excellence in both organization and athletic performance. To further elevate Doha’s round, the federation has boosted prize money, especially for those who set new records in their respective disciplines. Additional financial incentives have also been allocated for record-breaking performances.
Al Fadala expressed strong confidence in audience turnout, citing the success of a wide-reaching promotional campaign carried out across schools in Qatar. This initiative not only aims to draw spectators but also seeks to nurture a broader fan base for athletics. He also noted the federation’s efforts to align the event with environmental sustainability standards.
