KUWAIT: Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier emerged as the decisive figure as Paris St Germain clinched their fourth consecutive French Super Cup title, edging rivals Olympique de Marseille 4-1 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in Kuwait on Thursday.
PSG appeared on course for a comfortable win after Ousmane Dembélé struck early, continuing his knack for delivering in finals after last season’s late winner against AS Monaco. However, Marseille produced a stunning late comeback, with Mason Greenwood converting a penalty before a Willian Pacho own goal handed them a shock lead.
The French champions responded with relentless pressure, finally breaking through in the dying seconds as Gonçalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser to force a shootout. Chevalier then took centre stage, saving penalties from Matt O’Riley and Hamed Traoré.
Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Désiré Doué all converted for PSG, sealing yet another Super Cup triumph. It marked PSG’s 12th title in the last 13 years, underlining their continued dominance.
