MANCHESTER: Manchester United’s stand-in manager Michael Carrick said his side must harness the surge of belief sweeping through the club after continuing his dream return with a stirring victory at Arsenal on Sunday.
Carrick, appointed earlier this month following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, has overseen an immediate turnaround in fortunes, with back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Premier League leaders Arsenal lifting United to fourth in the table.“We’ve got to ride it and use the emotion,” Carrick said.
“You have got to use the energy and use the confidence. You’ve got to be humble enough to understand how we’ve achieved these two big results. It doesn’t come easy, so we need to bottle it and use it again.”United were made to work hard at the Emirates Stadium, surviving a dominant opening spell from Arsenal before falling behind to a Lisandro Martinez own goal.
However, a mistake from the hosts allowed Bryan Mbeumo to level, before second-half strikes from Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha sealed a dramatic 3-2 win.
The result marked United’s first league victory at Arsenal since 2017 and underlined Carrick’s impressive impact as he looks to maintain momentum and banish the gloom that had surrounded Old Trafford.
