MADRID: Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is expected to be out for around a month after suffering a hamstring injury in their 2-1 LaLiga win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, the club said.
The 22-year-old England international was forced off after just nine minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu after pulling up while chasing a long ball and clutching the back of his left thigh.
Although he was able to walk off the pitch, Bellingham appeared visibly distressed as he left the field in tears.
The setback comes at a critical stage of the season for second-placed Real Madrid, who sit one point behind leaders Barcelona in the standings.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side face a demanding run of fixtures without Bellingham, beginning with an away trip to Valencia next Sunday.
The midfielder is also expected to miss Madrid’s two-legged Champions League knockout playoff tie against Portuguese side Benfica later this month.
