DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering moving its Twenty20 World Cup matches out of India following the release of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman by his Indian Premier League franchise amid rising tensions between the two countries, according to an ESPNCricinfo report.
Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed on Saturday that Mustafizur had been released after being instructed to do so by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The development has raised alarm within the BCB, particularly with Bangladesh scheduled to play three T20 World Cup matches in Kolkata next month in the tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Following Mustafizur’s release, the BCB held an emergency meeting and is planning to write to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to request the relocation of their matches, citing concerns over player safety.
“We have three matches of the T20 World Cup in Kolkata, so we will write to the ICC regarding what has happened today,” BCB media committee chairman Amzad Hussain told ESPNcricinfo.
The situation adds uncertainty to Bangladesh’s World Cup preparations as officials await a response from the ICC.( Reuters )
