HAMBURG, Germany: Harry Kane struck his 36th goal of the season but Bayern Munich surrendered a second-half lead to draw 2-2 with Hamburg SV in their Bundesliga clash at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday.

League leaders Bayern moved to 51 points from 20 matches, nine clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who have a game in hand. Hamburg climbed to 13th on 19 points from 19 games and extended their recent run of draws to four in five league outings.

Bayern were unfortunate not to go ahead midway through the first half when Joshua Kimmich’s powerful effort from the edge of the area crashed off the crossbar. Moments later, however, Hamburg were awarded a penalty after Kimmich fouled Nicolai Remberg, and Fabio Vieira calmly converted to put the hosts in front.

The visitors responded before the break as Kane equalised, scoring his 22nd Bundesliga goal of the season and 36th in all competitions. After Kimmich failed to connect with Serge Gnabry’s cross, the England captain turned sharply and finished from close range to make it 1-1.

Bayern took the lead just 43 seconds after the restart through substitute Luis Diaz, who finished low after a neat exchange between Gnabry and Michael Olise. Hamburg refused to fade, though, and were rewarded when Luka Vuskovic headed in from close range following William Mikelbrencis’ cross.

Both sides went close to finding a winner late on, with Bayern hitting the crossbar again through Jonathan Tah and Alphonso Davies clearing off the line at the other end to preserve a point for the visitors.
