BARCELONA: FC Barcelona have completed the loan signing of Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo from Saudi side Al-Hilal, bringing the experienced full-back back to the club for the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old’s return adds proven quality and versatility to the Spanish champions’ defensive options.
Cancelo is no stranger to life at Camp Nou, having spent the 2023–24 campaign on loan from Manchester City. During that spell, he made 32 LaLiga appearances and became a regular feature with his attacking thrust and tactical flexibility on both flanks.
After leaving City, the three-time Premier League winner joined Al-Hilal in August 2024, but Barcelona have now moved to secure his services once again as they look to strengthen for the business end of the campaign.
“FC Barcelona and Al-Hilal Saudi FC have reached an agreement for the loan of the Portuguese full-back until the end of the season. He will wear the number two shirt,” the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
Cancelo’s familiarity with the squad and system is expected to allow for a smooth reintegration, giving Barcelona an immediate boost as they pursue domestic and European ambitions.
