DOHA : Aspire Academy concluded the second edition of its annual “Spread Your Wings” football tournament with two new champions crowned in the government and private schools categories.
Launched in 2024 as part of Aspire’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the tournament returned this year featuring players born in 2017. Eight teams competed in each category, with squads of up to 10 players contesting five-a-side knockout matches.
In the private schools competition, hosted by Iqraa Academy’s Muaither branch, Arab International Academy claimed the title, while Ofaz International School finished runners-up. The event was attended by former professional players Mohammed Mubarak and Fahd Al-Shammari, who presented the medals.
The government schools competition was hosted by Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud School, with seven other schools taking part. Ali Bin Abdullah School secured first place, with Al Ikhlas School finishing second. Saeed Ali Al-Marri, Director of Football at Aspire Academy, awarded the medals.
“We are delighted with the success of the second edition of the ‘Spread Your Wings’ football tournament, as it provides young players with the opportunity to enjoy the competition and learn from the experience,” Al-Marri said.
“As in every year, the tournament provides an important platform for discovering new talents from public and private schools. We are committed to developing potential future stars and working with them to become champions who will raise Qatar’s name high.”
The tournament reflects Aspire Academy’s broader vision of promoting healthy lifestyles and reinforcing values such as teamwork, inclusivity and social cohesion. It also serves as a platform for talent identification, offering scouts the opportunity to assess young players for the academy’s football programme.
The event’s name draws inspiration from the slogan that accompanied Aspire Academy’s official opening in 2005, underlining its continued mission to empower young athletes to fulfil their potential both on and off the pitch.
