LONDON: Mikel Arteta has hinted he could extend his stay at Arsenal beyond the end of his current contract in 2027, but insists continued success will determine his future at the club. The Spaniard, who completes six years in charge on Saturday, believes a manager must constantly earn the right to remain in the role.
Arteta guided Arsenal to FA Cup glory in 2020, but league success has so far eluded him, with the Gunners finishing runners-up in the Premier League in each of the last three seasons. This campaign, however, Arsenal are showing strong promise, sitting two points clear at the top and reaching the League Cup quarter-finals.
Asked about a potential extension, Arteta stressed that nothing is guaranteed. He said the focus must remain on the present, adding that results in the coming months will be crucial in justifying any long-term commitment. For Arteta, silverware remains the ultimate measure of progress and the key to securing his future at the North London club.
