RABAT: Algeria will launch their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 campaign on Wednesday with a Group E clash against Sudan in Rabat, marking the first official AFCON meeting between the two nations. Under pressure after suffering group-stage exits in the last two tournaments, the Desert Foxes will be eager to make a strong start and reassert themselves as title contenders.
Sudan, returning to the AFCON finals after missing the previous edition, face a challenging task in a competitive group that also includes Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea. Those two sides meet later on Wednesday in Casablanca in another crucial Group E encounter that could shape the early standings.
Elsewhere, Group F action sees Cameroon begin their campaign against Gabon in Agadir. The Indomitable Lions will be looking for an opening win before a demanding fixture against defending champions Ivory Coast. Cameroon are expected to lean on the attacking threat of Bryan Mbeumo, while Gabon will look to captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for inspiration.
Ivory Coast also take to the field on Wednesday as they start the defense of their AFCON crown against Mozambique, aiming to set the tone for their title defense in Morocco.
