DOHA (Qatar): Al Wakrah outshone Al Sailiya 3-1 in a seventh round match of Qatar Stars League here at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday evening.
Mohamed Benyettou (49th minute), Omar Ali (52nd minute) and Cristian Ceballos (75th minute) scored for Al Wakrah while Abdulqadir Ilyas (90+1) pulled one back for Al Sailiya, who remained on eight points.
In other matches, Al Ahli held strong contenders Al Rayyan to a 1-1 draw and Qatar Sports Club picked up an important 3-0 win over Al Arabi.
Both teams had dropped points in their previous match with Sailiya drawing goalless with Al Khor and Al Wakrah losing 0-1 to Qatar SC.
Wakrah, who raised their tally to 10 points, enjoyed the domination with Ceballos, Benyettou and Omar Ali leading their charge as Sailiya defenders had a tough time.
Ceballos made his intentions clear with a long-ranger in the 13th minute while Omar was off-target in the 27th following a quick move and Benyettou headed over in the 44th. Riadh Nasser also came close towards the end of first half.
At the other end, Sailiya attackers Abdulqadir Ilyas, Tiago Bezerra and Mohanad Ali (Mimi) struggled to make inroads as they missed the speed and pace of Ahmed Hammoudan. (With inputs from QSL)
