DOHA: Al-Waab pulled off a major upset in the eighth round of the Qatari Second Division on Tuesday, beating league leaders Lusail 2-1 at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.
The victory was Al-Waab’s first of the season and lifted them to five points, although they remain bottom of the standings. Lusail stayed top on 18 points despite the defeat, holding a one-point lead over Al-Markhiya.
Al-Markhiya moved to 17 points after being held to a goalless draw by Muaither at Al-Khor Stadium. Muaither are fourth on 11 points.Al-Kharaitiyat were the biggest winners of the round, securing a 2-0 victory over Al-Bidaa at Saud bin Abdul Rahman Stadium.
The result lifted Al-Kharaitiyat to 16 points in third place, closing the gap to Lusail to two points and leaving them one point behind Al-Markhiya. Al-Bidaa remained on seven points and slipped to seventh.
In the other match, Al Khor and Al Muaither played out a 1-1 draw at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium. Al Muaither sit fifth with eight points, while Al Khor moved up to sixth on seven points.
