DOHA: Al Sadd secured a narrow 2-0 victory over Al Ahli in an entertaining Doha Bank Stars League match on Friday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, as the 2025–26 season reached its 13th round.
The first half ended goalless, and the contest appeared set to finish the same way until Rafa Mojica broke the deadlock with a header 10 minutes from time. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Hashem Ali sealed the win after going one-on-one following a fine pass from Akram Afif.
Al Ahli delivered a disciplined performance, particularly in defence, and the side coached by Younes Ali looked capable of imposing their game plan for long periods before conceding late.
The match also saw drama in the final minute when Al Ahli defender Khaled Radwan Sheikh was sent off for fouling Afif on the edge of the penalty area. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a free kick outside the box and issued a red card.
The win keeps Al Sadd in second place in the standings, level with their position from the previous round after leaders Al Gharafa also won. Al Sadd moved to 26 points, while Al Ahli remain ninth on 15 points.
