DOHA: The fifth day of the 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup, alongside the Arab Championship for youth, juniors and seniors and the West Asia Championship, delivered gripping contests in Doha under the organization of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation.
Action centered on the men’s 88kg and women’s 69kg categories, where lifters battled fiercely across all three championships. In the Arab Championship senior men’s 88kg division, Omani lifter Amer Al Khangari dominated, sweeping three gold medals with lifts of 156kg in the snatch, 195kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 351kg. Egypt’s Mostafa Mahmoud Bakry and Syria’s Mohammad Al Khattab completed the podium after a tightly contested event.
Bakry also impressed in the youth competition, claiming two gold medals and a silver, while Al Khattab added further honors for Syria. The junior category saw Morocco’s Zahid Abdulrahim secure a clean sweep of gold medals, ahead of Yemen’s Mohammed Adel and Saudi Arabia’s Ali Hassan Al Sada.
In the women’s 69kg category, Tunisia’s Jawaher Jasmi led the senior standings with gold in the clean and jerk and total, while Egypt’s Abeer Mohamed topped the snatch. Morocco’s Shadia Chachoui added multiple medals in a closely fought contest. In the young women’s division, Abeer Mohamed again stood out with two gold medals, as Chachoui and Saudi Arabia’s Nahid Mohammed completed the podium.
With high-level performances continuing across age groups, the championships are reinforcing Doha’s status as a major stage for regional and international weightlifting.
