DOHA, Feb 26 (Reuters) – Al Gharafa were crowned champions of the women’s 3×3 basketball tournament as winners were also decided in the Family Fun Run at the 12th Ramadan Sports Festival organised by the Aspire Zone Foundation in Doha.
Held in partnership with the Qatar Sports for All Federation, the Family Fun Run took place at Aspire Park from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., drawing wide participation across the community in a festive Ramadan atmosphere.
The free event featured 1km and 3km races, with registration available through the QSFA app. In the men’s over-18 3km race, Zakaria Graham finished first, followed by Faisal Yousef and Naif Al-Shammari. Agiol Khabibolina won the women’s over-18 3km event, ahead of Ransi Iaga and Zain Osman.
In the boys’ race for those over 13, Arjan Rakesh took top honours, with Youssef Jamal second and Nasser Al Khaja third.
The women’s 3×3 basketball competition, staged at the Women’s Sports Hall on Feb. 24-25, concluded with Al Gharafa 1 defeating Al Muharibeen 21-12 in the final. Iman Jalali of Al Gharafa was named the tournament’s best player.
Al Muharibeen had reached the final after beating the Third Unit 17-9 in the semi-finals, while Al Gharafa overcame Ravens A 16-2 to set up the title clash.
Meanwhile, the Embassies Football Championship continued on Pitch No. 4 with 24 teams representing various communities competing across eight groups. On the fourth day, Oman beat South Africa 6-1 in Group B, Chad edged Mali 6-5 in Group C, and India thrashed Finland 12-3 in Group D.
The group stage runs until March 1, followed by the round of 16 on March 2-3, quarter-finals on March 4, semi-finals on March 5 and the final on March 6.
The Aspire Sponsors Football Tournament 2025 also got under way at Stadium No. 5, with Al Waha defeating Ashghal 3-0 in Group One and Ashghal 1 beating Qatar Primary Resources Company 7-2 in Group Two. The six-team competition continues with second-round matches scheduled later on Thursday.
Beach volleyball events are set to begin on the sand courts at Aspire Academy later on Thursday and will run until Feb. 28, adding to a packed programme that has reinforced the Ramadan Sports Festival’s status as one of Qatar’s leading community sporting events.
