DOHA : Al Gharafa and Al Shamal began their 2025/26 Qatar Women’s Basketball League campaigns with victories in the opening round of the season.
Al Gharafa edged Al Adaam 62-61 in the opening match. Although Al Adaam delivered a strong performance, Al Gharafa held their nerve in the closing moments to secure their first two points of the season. Al Adaam are participating for technical and developmental purposes, with their results not counted in the league standings.
In the second match, Al Shamal claimed an 85-71 win over Al Khor, underlining their early-season strength.
The league is being contested in a three-round format featuring four teams: Al Gharafa, Al Adaam, Al Shamal and Al Khor. The title will be awarded to the team with the highest points total at the end of the season, with a playoff to be held if teams finish level.
Second-round matches are scheduled for Feb. 13, with Al Khor facing Al Gharafa and Al Adaam meeting Al Shamal. The third round will take place on Feb. 17, featuring Al Gharafa against Al Shamal and Al Khor versus Al Adaam.
The second stage of the league begins on Feb. 20, when Al Adaam play Al Gharafa and Al Khor face Al Shamal. Further fixtures are scheduled for Feb. 22, with Al Gharafa meeting Al Khor and Al Shamal playing Al Adaam.
The second stage concludes on March 1 with matches between Al Shamal and Al Gharafa, and Al Adaam and Al Khor. The schedule for the third stage will be announced later.
