Abu Dhabi : Al-Duhail, runners-up in last season’s Qatari league, will meet Al-Wahda in the Challenge Shield at Al Nahyan Stadium as part of the Qatari-Emirati Super Cup.
Al-Duhail are seeking their first title of the season but face a tough task against Al-Wahda, who beat them 3-1 when the sides met in the group stage of the AFC Champions League in Abu Dhabi last October.
Coached by Algerian Djamel Belmadi, Al-Duhail will look to rely on key players including Algerian forward Adel Boulbina, Polish striker Krzysztof Piątek and Italian midfielder Marco Verratti.
Al-Duhail regained momentum with a 2-0 win over Al-Wakrah in the latest round of the Qatari league, lifting their tally to 19 points and leaving them sixth in the standings.
Al-Wahda, meanwhile, have impressed in the AFC Champions League Elite, securing early qualification for the round of 16 after five rounds and sitting fourth in the West standings with 13 points.
