Doha -Defending champions Al Arabi continued their strong run in the General Basketball League for the 2025–2026 season by moving to the top of the standings after another convincing performance. Al Arabi claimed a well-earned 91–83 victory over Al Shamal on Thursday evening, January 1, 2026, at Al Gharafa Hall, in a match played as part of the second phase of the competition.

The game was competitive and fast-paced from the opening tip, with both teams showing quality on both ends of the court. Al Arabi edged the first quarter 22–21 before taking firm control in the second period. Strong defensive discipline and efficient scoring allowed them to outscore Al Shamal 29–18, building a comfortable lead by halftime. Al Arabi maintained their momentum in the third quarter, winning it 18–16 through physical play and sustained pressure. Although Al Shamal responded with a better showing in the final quarter, winning it 28–22, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Mustafa Hussain led Al Arabi with an impressive 26 points, while Shane Legend Rector topped Al Shamal’s scoring with 25 points. Othman Diata Ding earned the Best Qatari Player award, presented by Mosafer Company, for his overall contribution.

The win lifted Al Arabi to 20 points from 11 matches, placing them one point ahead of Al Rayyan. Al Shamal moved to 16 points from the same number of games.

In the second fixture, Al Wakrah defeated Al Gharafa 98–85. After a closely contested first half, Al Wakrah dominated the third quarter 29–13 to secure the win. Bakary Kamara starred with 29 points, while Joshua Caron Lee Hall scored 24 for Al Gharafa.
