DOHA: Al-Ahli will take on Iran’s Foolad Sepahan on Wednesday evening at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The Qatari side advanced to the knockout stage after topping Group B with 10 points, recording two wins and four draws.Sepahan qualified by finishing second in Group C with seven points from two wins, one draw and one defeat.
Al-Ahli will be aiming for a positive result to take a significant step toward reaching the semi-finals.
The two teams will meet again in the return leg, which the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to stage at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha instead of Naghsh-e Jahan Stadium in Isfahan, citing regional conditions and the need to ensure the safety of all parties and a suitable competitive environment.
