BRISBANE: Abhishek Sharma became the second fastest Indian to register 1000 runs in T20Is on Saturday during the fifth match between India and Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane.

The southpaw breached the four-digit tally in 28 innings. Virat Kohli holds the record for being the fastest Indian to reach the feat — he did it in 27 innings.

Abhishek, however, became the fastest player to reach the mark in terms of balls (528) amongst the top 10 teams, going past his skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s record of 573 balls.

In the ongoing tour of Australia, the Indian opener leads the scoring charts in the T20Is, so far amassing 163 runs at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 161.38.
