The El Mundo newspaper said the government will authorize thousands of tests to be performed on the players and other squad members.

MADRID (Spain): The Spanish league wants all players and coaches tested daily for the coronavirus when trainings resume.

There is still no timetable for the resumption of practices, and the league is not expected to restart before the end of May.

The El Mundo newspaper said on Thursday said the government will authorize thousands of tests to be performed on the players and other squad members.

The league wants the tests to be daily, and conducted starting when the individual training stage begins in order to “detect the so-called false negatives” who can still pass the virus to others. It said the clubs’ medical staff also will have to be tested daily.

In a report from MARCA, not all club doctors were comfortable moving forward as they could not guarantee the safety of the players.

May 4 and 11 have been proposed as potential return to training dates, with clubs receiving about 15 days before the matches would start.

Many doctors also felt the amount of time for training was insufficient and would lead to many players getting injured quickly.

In a report from Cadena Cope, La Liga are said to have acquired the test material legally from a private enterprise and did not require government authorization. The club doctors are clear about the protocol if an individual tests positive during the training phase of a return, but not during the competition.
