Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): China and Espanyol star Wu Lei, who was diagnosed earlier for COVID-19, has paid tribute to doctors and nurses for their selfless contribution to battle the current pandemic in the latest #BreakTheChain series.

The versatile forward joins more than 100 Asian icons and officials in the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) public awareness series which continues to spread the message of unity and enforce the health guidelines by medical experts.

Joining Wu in the latest episode are Thailand’s Jaroensak Wonggor, who won the Top Scorer award at the AFC U23 Championship Thailand earlier this year, and Kyrgyz Republic and FC Dordoi forward Mirlan Murzaev.

The 28-year-old Wu, only the second Chinese footballer to play in the La Liga, said he was grateful to the doctors and nurses for treating him while serving self-isolation in Spain.

“Personally, from my experience of being infected by the virus, I cannot describe the respect I have for doctors and nurses who sacrifice their time and own safety to help patients recover. I must thank them for taking such good care of me as well as to those who continue to help people affected by the COVID-19.

“The medical frontliners, have and will always be heroes, so please do not let their efforts go to waste. Listen to the advice of medical experts and the World Health Organization. We all have a part to play during this pandemic – whether small or big – but everyone must be responsible for their actions until we break the chain and see better days.”

After helping Thailand reach the AFC U23 Championship knockout stage for the first time, the 22-year-old Jaroensak is now lending his voice to spread awareness on the pandemic.

“As a footballer, I want to play in matches and entertain our fans, but we can’t now. It can be challenging, but we must follow the rules by our Governments and do our part to stop the pandemic. I strongly advise you to keep yourself occupied at home by studying and exercising regularly,” he said. (Source: AFC)
