DOHA (Qatar): North Korean international Han Kwang-Song scored a brace as reigning champions Al Duhail beat Muaither 4-0 to qualify for Amir Cup quarterfinals here on Thursday evening.

Han, who was signed by Duhail from Juventus last month, netted the goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes respectively while Almoez Ali (45th minute) and Muhammad Muntari (69th min) were the other scorers.

Han had been in Italy since 2017, having been brought in by Serie A side Cagliari. He made 12 appearances for them and scored once in the league.

He was also sent to Perugia on loan for two seasons, where he made thirty-nine appearances and scored eleven times.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring after was put through by Almoez Ali, and two minutes later he completed his second after his left-footed shot beat Muaither goalkeeper hands down.

Almoez also got onto the scoring sheet with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area after he received a pass from Sultan Al Braik.

Mohammed Muntari increased the lead after he shot home a cross from Mario Mandzukic.

In another Round of 16 match, Al Sadd overcame Al Kharaitiyat 3-1 to move into the quarterfinals.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored a double while Abdulkarim Hassan headed home Hamad Ismail’s cross to put Sadd ahead in the second minute.

Kharaitiyat gave a good account of themselves and even though their top striker Rachid Tiberkanine missed a penalty in the 15th minute, only managing to hit the post, the Moroccan made amends five minutes later when he beat Sadd goalkeeper Meshal Barshim with a swirling freekick.

However, Sadd regained the lead in the 25th minute through Bounedjah who headed in Ali Asad’s cross.
