SHARJAH : Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan became the first bowler to take 200 wickets in men’s Twenty20 internationals on Thursday, reaching the historic milestone during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Sharjah.
The former Afghanistan captain achieved the landmark in his 120th T20 international when he trapped Zimbabwe opener Tadiwanashe Marumani lbw for two in the ninth over.
Rashid, 28, extended his lead at the top of the all-time wicket-taking list in men’s T20 internationals, moving 29 wickets clear of England leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who occupies second place with 171 dismissals.
The Afghan star has maintained an impressive bowling average of 13.96 and an economy rate of 6.13 throughout his T20I career, underlining his consistency in the shortest international format.
His record includes two five-wicket hauls, with career-best figures of 5-3.
Widely regarded as one of the most effective spin bowlers in limited-overs cricket, Rashid has played a central role in Afghanistan’s rise on the international stage.
Thursday’s achievement added another milestone to his career, coming a year after he became the first Afghanistan bowler to claim 200 wickets in one-day internationals.
He reached that ODI landmark against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi in October 2025, further strengthening his standing among the country’s most accomplished cricketers.
