DOHA : Al Rayyan coach Vicente Moreno said his side were determined to return to winning ways when they face Oman’s Al Nahda at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Wednesday in the third round of AFC Champions League Two Group C.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, the Spanish coach urged his players to produce a strong performance and secure all three points after their 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun in the previous round.
Moreno acknowledged the challenge of facing Al Nahda away from home, particularly with the Omani side also seeking to bounce back from their defeat to Jordan’s Al Faisaly.
He said preparations had gone well but stressed that his team must remain fully focused against opponents possessing several talented players.
Al Rayyan opened their continental campaign with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Al Faisaly before suffering their first defeat against Al Taawoun.
The Qatari side currently sit second in Group C with three points, while Al Nahda occupy fourth place with one point.
Al Rayyan midfielder Diego Amaro also expressed confidence ahead of the encounter, saying the players were physically prepared despite the demands of a busy schedule.
Amaro said the team were accustomed to playing frequent matches and remained determined to correct their course in the competition.
With both teams seeking a positive response to their recent setbacks, Wednesday’s encounter offers Al Rayyan an opportunity to strengthen their position in the group and boost their qualification prospects.
