VIENNA : Carlos Alcaraz will return to the Erste Bank Open for the first time since 2021 after accepting a wild-card entry for the ATP 500 indoor tournament, the ATP Tour announced on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Spaniard has endured an injury-disrupted season, with a wrist problem forcing him to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon, but he has still won three titles, including the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo tournaments.
The Vienna event runs from October 26 to November 1 and is expected to feature several top-10 players, including Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, Italy’s Flavio Cobolli and Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
World number three Alcaraz reached the Vienna semi-finals in 2021, aged 18, before losing to eventual champion Zverev.
Alcaraz has a 33-5 win-loss record this season. World number one Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, will miss the remainder of the year because of injury.
