JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Qatar drew 1-1 with the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to finish second in Group B of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup, with both teams already assured of places in the semi-finals.
The draw at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium left both sides on seven points, but the UAE finished top on goal difference.
Qatar took the lead in the 33rd minute when Jassem Gaber delivered a cross that Almoez Ali turned into the net.
The UAE increased the pressure after falling behind and equalised in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. Khaled Al Tanhani played the ball towards Ali Saleh, who controlled it before firing a low shot past the Qatar defence.
The UAE continued to press after the break as Qatar dropped deeper and looked to counterattack, but neither side found a winning goal.
The UAE will face Group A runners-up Oman in the first semi-final on Saturday at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium.
Qatar will meet Group A winners Saudi Arabia in the second semi-final at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on the same day.
The 1-1 draw settled the final Group B positions, with the UAE taking top spot and Qatar advancing as runners-up to set up a semi-final against the hosts Saudi Arabia.
