Tokyo: Qatar’s national 3×3 basketball team claimed the silver medal at the 20th Asian Games – Aichi-Nagoya 2026 after losing 19–10 to South Korea in the final.
Team Qatar had made steady progress on their way to the final, beginning their campaign with four consecutive victories, including wins over Indonesia and Chinese Taipei. They continued their strong run in the knockout stages, overcoming Bahrain in the Round of 16 before defeating Mongolia in the quarter-finals to set up a semi-final against Iran.
Team Qatar maintained their impressive form with victory over Iran before facing South Korea in the final, where they were defeated to conclude their campaign with the silver medal.
Reaching the final and claiming silver represents a significant achievement for Qatar amid the strong level of competition in the 3×3 basketball tournament. Team Qatar faced several strong opponents throughout their campaign and successfully navigated the different stages of the competition to reach the final.
The Qatari players displayed great determination and fighting spirit throughout the tournament, producing impressive performances that underlined Qatar basketball’s presence on the Asian stage.
Although Team Qatar missed out on gold, the silver medal represents a strong return from their Aichi-Nagoya campaign after a series of victories carried them into the final and demonstrated their ability to compete against Asia’s leading 3×3 teams.
Backed by strong support from the stands, Team Qatar concluded their Asian Games campaign on the podium with the silver medal and will look to build on the experience ahead of future competitions.
