AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan — India booked their place in the women’s table tennis quarter-finals at the Asian Games with a 3-0 win over Pakistan in their second Group F match on Monday.
India, who began their campaign with a 3-2 comeback victory over Singapore on Sunday, took control against Pakistan from the opening match.
Suthirtha Mukherjee defeated Aleena Khan 11-3 11-3 11-4 to give India a 1-0 lead.
Syndrela Das then beat Kalsoom Khan 11-6 11-7 11-5 to extend India’s advantage to 2-0.
Sreeja Akula completed the victory in the third match, defeating Fatima Khan 11-4 11-4 11-5 to seal the tie without the need for a fourth match.
India made changes to their lineup against Pakistan, with Mukherjee and Das coming into the team in place of Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade.
India had faced a tougher test against Singapore in their opening match, falling 1-2 behind before Akula and Ghorpade won the final two matches to secure the 3-2 victory.
The two wins have taken India into the quarter-finals, with their strong start to the group stage keeping them on course for a deep run in the women’s team competition at the Asian Games.
