PRAGUE : The Czech Republic rallied from 2-1 down to beat the United States 3-2 in Davis Cup qualifying on Saturday, winning both reverse singles matches to reach the quarterfinals.
The United States took a 2-1 lead after Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek edged Adam Pavlasek and Patrik Rikl 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(8) in the doubles.
U.S. Open finalist Ben Shelton then won the opening set against Jakub Mensik, but world number 15 Mensik fought back to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and level the tie at 2-2.
Jiri Lehecka completed the comeback in the deciding rubber, beating American Learner Tien 6-3, 7-5. Lehecka, who had also beaten Shelton in Friday’s opening day, converted four of six break opportunities in a match featuring six breaks of serve.
The United States were eliminated, while the Czech Republic advanced to the next stage.
The Davis Cup ties being played worldwide this weekend will determine the seven teams that join defending champions Italy in the final stage in Bologna from Nov. 24-29.
Austria 3, Belgium 1
Jurji Rodionov, ranked 142nd in the world, upset Belgium’s world number 38 Zizou Bergs 7-6(6), 6-3 to send Austria into the next round in Vienna.
Rodionov had beaten Gauthier Onclin 6-4, 6-1 on Friday before partnering Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner helped Austria take a 2-1 lead by beating Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen 7-6(5), 7-5.
Rodionov saved a set point in the first-set tiebreak against Bergs before winning three consecutive points to take the opener. He then broke Bergs in all four of the Belgian’s service games in the second set.
South Korea 3, India 1
Soonwoo Kwon won his second singles match to lead South Korea past India 3-1 in Seoul.
Kwon beat Sumit Nagal 6-1, 6-2 after opening the tie on Friday with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Dhakshineswar Suresh.
Kwon, 28, returned to international competition in June after an absence that began in January 2025 because of mandatory military service.
India’s N Sriram Balaji and Suresh had earlier kept their team alive by beating Nam Ji-sung and Park Ui-sung 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the doubles.
Canada 3, France 1
Felix Auger-Aliassime won both of his singles matches to lead Canada past France in Quebec City.
The world number five rallied from a set down to beat Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the deciding singles match.
Auger-Aliassime fired 17 aces and won 67 of 86 points on his serve.
He had earlier beaten Quentin Halys 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 after Canadian Liam Draxl had produced a surprise win to give Canada an early advantage.
France’s only point came in the doubles, where Benjamin Bonzi and Pierre-Hugues Herbert beat Auger-Aliassime and Duncan Chan 7-6(4), 6-3.
