NEW DELHI — Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh helped India beat Afghanistan by seven wickets in the first T20I of their three-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
Afghanistan, sent in to bat, posted 156 for eight with Azmatullah Omarzai top-scoring with an unbeaten 64 from 44 balls.
Arshdeep was India’s leading bowler, taking three wickets for 19 runs as Afghanistan were restricted to 156.
India lost Sanju Samson for 10 in the chase after he replaced Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the side.
Abhishek then took control of the innings alongside Ishan Kishan, scoring 82 from 32 balls. His innings included seven fours and seven sixes as India chased down Afghanistan’s total with seven wickets to spare.
The result gives India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the teams set to meet again in the second T20I.
