DOHA : Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, is leading a 28-member medical team supporting Qatar’s delegation at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.
The medical contingent comprises three sports medicine physicians, 15 physiotherapists and 10 sports massage therapists under the supervision of Dr. Adnan Saltani, Chief Medical Officer of the Qatari delegation.
Aspetar has established a dedicated medical clinic at the delegation’s accommodation village, while its specialists will also be deployed at competition venues to provide medical coverage for the 427-member delegation.
Qatar will field 243 athletes, including 184 men and 59 women, across 26 sports and 32 disciplines.
The hospital will provide sports medicine and primary healthcare services, including injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, recovery support, emergency care and continuous health monitoring. The team will also coordinate with local medical facilities and provide anti-doping education.
“Aspetar is proud to provide medical support to the Qatari delegation at the Asian Games and to apply our expertise at the continent’s largest sporting event,” Aspetar Acting Director General Khaled Ali Al Mawlawi said.
He added that the experience in Japan would help build knowledge and systems ahead of Doha’s hosting of the Asian Games in 2030.
Saltani said the medical operation was fully prepared and that the team would provide care not only at competition venues but also at the athletes’ accommodation.
“Our specialised sports medicine clinic travels with the delegation, equipped with highly skilled physicians, physiotherapists and sports massage therapists,” Saltani said.
Before the Games, Aspetar conducted medical screenings, nutritional consultations and guidance on recovery, sleep management and adapting to jet lag.
The hospital will also provide remote specialist consultations and assist the delegation’s medical staff with reviewing medical reports, test results and diagnoses throughout the competition.
The support forms part of the partnership between Aspetar and the Qatar Olympic Committee to provide medical and scientific expertise to Qatari athletes at major international events.
