CAPE TOWN : Temba Bavuma will captain South Africa in their three-match one-day international series against Australia later this month, with fast bowler Gerald Coetzee recalled to the 50-over squad.
The series runs from Sept. 24 to 30, with the opening match in Durban followed by games in Johannesburg on Sept. 27 and Potchefstroom on Sept. 30.
Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will miss the series because of injury but is hoping to recover in time for the test matches that follow.
Ottneil Baartman, Coetzee, Kwena Maphaka, Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen make up the pace attack, while Bjorn Fortuin and Keshav Maharaj are the specialist spin options.
Dewald Brevis was left out, with Matthew Breetzke, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs preferred among the middle-order batting options.
“With the World Cup just over a year away, this series marks an important step in shaping the squad as we build towards the tournament,” coach Shukri Conrad said.
“It also gives those players who are in the frame opportunities when we face Bangladesh and England later in the season.”
Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton are also included in the 16-man squad.
