DOHA : Qatar’s men’s national basketball team are intensifying preparations for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, with their 5×5 campaign set to begin against Iran on Sept. 10 in Nagoya.
Qatar have been drawn in Group B alongside Iran, Jordan and Chinese Taipei. They will face Jordan on Sept. 12 before completing the group stage against Chinese Taipei the following day.
Group A comprises hosts Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, while Group C features China, the Philippines, Bahrain and Kazakhstan.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for Sept. 16, followed by the semi-finals on Sept. 18. The medal matches will take place on Sept. 20.
Qatar will look to build on a strong record in Asian basketball, including back-to-back bronze medals at the Asian Cup in 2003 and 2005 and victory in the 2004 FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup.
The team also made history by qualifying for the 2006 FIBA World Cup in Japan, one of the country’s landmark achievements in international basketball.
With the Asian Games approaching, Qatar are stepping up their training programme as they prepare to compete against some of Asia’s leading basketball nations.
