AMMAN : Qatar secured qualification for the 2027 U19 World Handball Championship after reaching the semifinals of the Asian Men’s U19 Handball Championship in Jordan with a commanding 33-13 victory over the hosts on Friday.
Qatar dominated from the opening whistle, taking a 16-4 lead into halftime before maintaining their control after the break to complete a 20-goal victory.
The result secured Qatar a place in the last four and also guaranteed qualification for next year’s world championship.
Qatar will face South Korea in Saturday’s semifinal after the Koreans defeated Kuwait 36-28 in their quarterfinal.
The Qatari side had earlier enjoyed a perfect run through Group B, collecting eight points from four victories.
They opened the tournament with a 30-22 win over Saudi Arabia before defeating Kuwait 30-19 and Iran 24-22. Qatar completed the group stage with a 42-29 victory over Syria.
Qatar’s strong defensive display against Jordan continued a tournament campaign in which they have consistently controlled matches and produced efficient attacking performances.
The team will now seek to maintain its unbeaten record against South Korea and reach the final, where they will compete for the Asian title.
Their qualification for the 2027 world championship also marks an important step in Qatar’s efforts to strengthen its presence at the international youth level.
