LONDON : Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year on Tuesday after a standout 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
The Portuguese midfielder provided a league-record 21 assists and scored nine goals as United finished third in the English top flight.
Fernandes, who joined United in 2020, is the second Portuguese player to win the award after Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed it in 2007 and 2008.
The 31-year-old has scored 110 goals and supplied 106 assists for United. He reached 200 goal involvements in 314 Premier League appearances, second only to Wayne Rooney, who reached the mark in 295 games.
United players have now won the men’s award 12 times, more than those of any other club in England and Wales.
Manchester City forward Khadija Shaw was named the PFA Women’s Player of the Year for the second time after finishing as the Women’s Super League’s leading scorer with 21 goals.
City left back Nico O’Reilly, 21, won the men’s Young Player of the Year award after making 53 appearances in all competitions and scoring nine goals. Arsenal striker Olivia Smith, 22, won the women’s award for a second successive year.
Fernandes was joined in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, defenders Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, and City’s O’Reilly.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki completed the midfield, while City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo and Brentford’s Igor Thiago were selected in attack.
