PORT OF SPAIN : Pakistan secured their first away Test victory in three years with an emphatic eight-wicket win over West Indies on the fourth day of the second Test, levelling the two-match series 1-1.
Resuming with a narrow lead and only three wickets in hand, West Indies were quickly dismissed as Pakistan’s bowlers wrapped up the innings.
Left-arm spinner Ali Usman struck with the first breakthrough of the morning, removing Kemar Roach before the score had advanced. Justin Greaves then chopped on to Mohammad Ali, while Brandon King was unable to bat after suffering an injury while fielding on day three.
Shamar Joseph briefly delayed the inevitable with a couple of boundaries before top-edging Usman, leaving Pakistan a target of 75.
Pakistan’s chase began cautiously as Imam-ul-Haq edged Jayden Seales behind, while Azan Awais was bowled after dragging the ball onto his stumps to offer West Indies a glimmer of hope.
However, first-innings centurion Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam ensured there would be no further alarms, combining in an unbeaten partnership to guide Pakistan home.
Babar sealed the victory in emphatic fashion after lunch by advancing down the pitch to launch Jomel Warrican for consecutive sixes.
The victory ended Pakistan’s eight-match losing streak in away Tests and gave Babar a winning start to his second stint as Test captain.
It was Pakistan’s first overseas Test win since 2023 and ensured the series finished level at 1-1, the third successive Test series between the two sides to end in a draw.
