KUALA LUMPUR : Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has welcomed FIFA’s decision to withdraw its proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative.
In a statement published on the AFC’s official website, Shaikh Salman said future proposals with significant implications for global football should be presented to and discussed with the continental confederations, the FIFA Council, member associations and other stakeholders in a timely, transparent and meaningful manner.
“I am proud that all our member associations stood together and entrusted the AFC to seek answers on their behalf regarding an issue of immense importance to the future governance of world football,” Shaikh Salman said.
“I thank them for their patience, solidarity and unity, and assure them that the AFC will always act in their best interests.”
He added that the future governance of world football must be guided by consultation and collective decision-making.
“The future of global football must always be shaped through proper consultation, collective dialogue and respect for the established governance structures of our game,” he said.
Shaikh Salman also reaffirmed the AFC’s willingness to support initiatives that strengthen unity within the global football community.
“The AFC stands ready to support any initiative that strengthens the unity of the football family, contributes to the continued growth of the game globally and delivers meaningful benefits to all stakeholders,” he added.
