Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting Club made a dream start to their Durand Cup 2026 Group B campaign with a dominant 4–0 victory over FC Banaras Baghpat at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday.
The Black & White Brigade produced a disciplined and clinical display to secure all three points, combining attacking flair with defensive solidity to keep a clean sheet.
Mohammedan Sporting controlled possession from the outset and deservedly opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Lalthankima embarked on a fine attacking run before delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Mohammad Fardin Ali, who finished from close range to give his side a 1–0 lead. The advantage remained unchanged at the break.
The second half belonged entirely to Mohammedan Sporting as they stepped up the tempo and put the contest beyond doubt.
Substitute Lalremsanga made an instant impact, doubling the lead in the 73rd minute with a composed finish. Just seven minutes later, Israfil added a third, clinically converting to cap another flowing move and further underline the team’s dominance.
Lalremsanga completed his brace in the 84th minute, calmly slotting home his second goal of the evening to wrap up an impressive 4–0 victory.
