Kolkata: The Trophy Tour of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup concluded in Kolkata on Wednesday, completing its journey across all five host states ahead of the tournament’s kick-off on July 25.
The tournament’s three iconic trophies—the Durand Cup, President’s Cup, and Simla Trophy—were showcased here, marking the end of the nationwide tour that travelled through West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur, engaging football fans and local communities.
The 135th Durand Cup will run from July 25 to August 23, featuring 24 teams, including Sri Lankan Armed Forces, competing in 43 matches across six venues in Kolkata, Ranchi, Guwahati, Shillong and Imphal.
Organised by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, the Durand Cup remains the world’s third-oldest surviving football competition, continuing its rich legacy since its inception in 1888.
Kolkata, the home of the Durand Cup since its revival in 2019, will once again play a central role in the tournament.
The city will host the opening match, Groups A and B, a quarter-final, a semi-final and the final.
The tournament begins on July 25 with the iconic Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Group A features Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, South United FC and CISF Protectors, while Group B includes Mohammedan SC, Indian Army Football Team, debutants Baghpat FC and Samaleswari Sporting.
