Tempers boiled over at the final whistle of the World Cup final on Sunday as a brief brawl broke out following Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina.
The incident began when Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes shoved Spain’s Gavi to the ground as Spanish substitutes sprinted onto the pitch to celebrate Ferran Torres’ extra-time winner.
Players from both teams became involved before Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni stepped in to calm the situation and restore order.
The heated conclusion followed an ill-tempered contest in which Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez had already been sent off in second-half stoppage time of extra time.
Spain secured their second World Cup title thanks to Torres’ 106th-minute strike, ending Argentina’s reign as world champions.
