VANCOUVER : Belgium secured top spot in Group G and advanced to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a dominant 5-1 victory over New Zealand in their final group-stage match on Friday.
Leandro Trossard scored twice, while Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Saelemaekers also found the net as Belgium capped an impressive performance at BC Place.
Trossard opened the scoring in the 28th minute before adding his second in the 50th. De Bruyne struck in the 66th minute, Lukaku added a fourth in the 86th, and Saelemaekers completed the rout in stoppage time.
The win saw Belgium finish top of Group G after drawing their opening two matches against Egypt and Iran, booking their place in the knockout stage.
New Zealand finished bottom of the group with one point and exited the tournament after the group stage.
