LONDON : Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko’s participation in the doubles quarter-finals at Queen’s Club alongside Serena Williams is in doubt after she suffered an apparent knee injury during her singles match on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old world number nine slipped on the grass and appeared to hurt her knee during her last-16 clash against former world number one Karolina Pliskova.

Mboko, who had partnered Williams to victory in the opening round of the doubles on Tuesday as the American returned to competitive action after nearly four years away from the sport, was scheduled to face Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Trailing 6-2 3-4 against the powerful Czech, Mboko earned a break point but fell awkwardly behind the baseline while changing direction on the slick surface.

After receiving assistance to reach the net, an emotional Mboko appeared unable to continue and retired from the match.

Earlier at the pre-Wimbledon grasscourt event, second seed Amanda Anisimova advanced comfortably to the quarter-finals with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Germany’s Laura Siegemund.

The American will next face compatriot Iva Jovic, who eased past Alexandra Eala 6-2 6-2.
