NANTES: Amad Diallo scored a dramatic late winner as Ivory Coast came from behind to defeat France 2-1 in a World Cup warm-up match in Nantes on Thursday.
France captain Kylian Mbappé endured a frustrating evening in his 97th international appearance, failing to find the net and remaining on 56 goals for Les Bleus—one short of Olivier Giroud’s all-time national team record of 57. Head coach Didier Deschamps substituted Mbappé at half-time.
Rayan Cherki had put France ahead just before the break, firing a powerful low shot into the net after skilful footwork inside the penalty area.
However, Ivory Coast responded strongly in the second half. Guela Doué, the French-born older brother of France international Désiré Doué, levelled the score in the 53rd minute before Diallo sealed a memorable victory with a late strike.
